Today I am sharing days 22-23 of eats with you from my January #31DaysofEats Challenge. If you’d like to share your eats along with me post them on Instagram (in your feed or story) and use the hashtag above. Make sure to tag @paigeschmidt so I can see/share your post and regram it in my story!
I’m doing this challenge for myself in a simple effort to share more daily intuitive/non-diet eats with all of you. These post are my *most* requested and the *most* missed when I don’t share them.
Before we dive in, I want to remind us all that these posts are not for comparison. Rather, these posts are here to provide you with inspiration for food ideas and to give YOU the freedom and permission to listen to YOUR BODY as I listen to mine, apart from food rules or dieting.
Thank you so much for being here and I hope you enjoy! Leave a comment when you finish reading!
Marco and I woke up at 4:00 AM Monday morning to have coffee (important), shower, and hit the road by 5:00. I am a GREAT morning driver but a TERRIBLE nighttime driver (anyone else?) so I drove first. We drove a couple hours and stopped in Santa Nella at Starbs. I got a spinach and feta wrap and a cappuccino. Yum!
Marco drove from this point on and I controlled the Podcasting, which was so fun to listen to Podcasts together. In the early morning while Marco slept I listed to Blair Badenhop’s Brand Yourself podcast, which I love! Later on we listened to the Joe Rogan podcast together which was entertaining and full of information. Dang, that guy is smart! Both were great!
As we were driving I practically leaped from the car when I saw this rainbow, screaming “HI MOM!!!!” like a crazy woman. My mom has so faithfully shown us a rainbow every trip we’ve made to Reno thus far and it’s been so sweet! Backstory, before my mom moved to heaven she told us that she would show up in rainbows (and in my future kid’s) and so I freaking love rainbows now.
The most wild thing is the way that I see them. The day after she passed I saw a rainbow driving home and it came and went within five seconds. It was so tiny and it just showed up and then disappeared. Yesterday, I saw this rainbow, leaped and screamed and then asked Marco to take a photo. He captured this but by the time he could turn on video it disappeared.
I can’t help but think about how special that is… that they just show up. Come and go. It feels like my mama is giving me a little “Hey Paigey [what she called me], I’m right here! Have fun on your trip and be safe [wouldn’t be Dottie unless she said ‘be safe’].”
When we got to Reno we met up with my dad and his brother, who lives there. We’d never been to his house before so we wanted to stop by. Marco and I were hungry so we grabbed a couple easy snacks from the camper. We shared the GoMacro bar and had one of these protein drinks, each. Marco takes these drinks to work – we packed them for road trip snacks because they’re easy.
After visiting my uncle and taking his dogs for a walk in the hills my dad, Marco and I went out to eat. I have a running list of all the food places we want to try in Reno and Süp was next on my list. It was SO good and the service was SO great. Good people, good food. I’m all for it! I had a chopped salad and…
…dad ordered a hummus plate to share. Ah, so good. So fresh and tasty! The hummus was ON POINT. Can I say that? The cucumbers and olives and tomatoes were all so good on the pita with fresh hummus. I will definitely be going back here once I get through the rest of my to try list.
After lunch we headed to our friends house where we are staying and I played with Mufasa, this German Shepard Husky ball of absolute love. No dog fear here, friends! Mufasa is the sweetest most lovable pup there ever was! Last time we were here he was half the size. He’s growing so fast! Isn’t he just a love?
For dinner we had Bob’s “chicken and broccoli” which is like our favorite thing ever when we visit. It’s a secret recipe so I can’t share it… ha! But just think: creamy chicken and broccoli over a bed of rice pilaf. Deee-licious. I got another small spoonful after this plate.
After dinner we watched the movie Stronger about the Boston marathon runner. I didn’t quite finish, which I know the end was probably the best part! But it was 10:00 PM and that was two hours past my in-bed time and I could not hang. My head was nodding. Ha! Off to bed I went. Movie to finish later ;).
Tuesday was so fun! I woke up at about 6:00 AM, had coffee and worked for a bit. Then Marco and I made breakfast: scrambled eggs and toast. After breakfast we took off for the gym. We got a free week pass at a local gym. Awesome!
When we got home from the gym we were both hungry and wanted to eat before hiking with our friends. So we heated up a little bit of leftover chicken, broccoli and rice from the night before. Yum!
We went hiking in Galena, which is the neighborhood/community in Reno right before you hit Lake Tahoe and Incline Village. It’s a beautiful community! We had 3 pups with us (you may have seen in my Instagram story @paigeschmidt where I’ve been sharing our trip). Even found a Christmas tree fully decorated with ornaments!
Here’s Marco and I at the top of the hike right before Mount Rose with Kobe pup! It was about an hour and 15 up and an hour and 15 down. Good hike! Beautiful.
Here’s dad and I. So glad papa Burton gets to be on this trip with us, it’s been fun!
After the hike, or rather, during the hike Marco suggested In-N-Out and all of us instantly praised him. Yes and amen, let’s go! I ordered a protein style (wrapped in lettuce – my favorite because it’s extra crunchy) hamburger with french fries. Yum!
After lunch we went home, showered, got cleaned up, and then relaxed for the rest of the night at the house. Or rather, played. We played pool and ping-pong. Pool, I whooped butt in! I beat my dad, Bob, and Marco all once… then my dad and Marco again, and then Bob took it home and killed me in the last game. Ha! Ping-pong, much harder for me! We had a total blast.
For dinner we had BBQ. It was so good. My dad and Bob cooked tri-tip and we had sides of corn, sesame coleslaw, green beans and mashed potatoes. It was all great! I got a little bit more after this plate. After dinner, around 9:30 I was totally beat and climbed in bed for a gooooood night of sleep. Slept so good last night!
I’m excited for the rest of the day and can’t wait to share the rest of the week with you all. I’ll be back for another post tomorrow (a VIP Q+A) and Friday (to share more of our trip and daily eats). Enjoy the day, friends! Come hangout on Instagram @paigeschmidt!
