A Bit About “Food Rules” (+ Daily Eats)

Friday is here y’all, and it’s St. Patricks Day! I hope you’ve got some fun plans this weekend, or simply plans to relax. Whatever you enjoy most! Today I am brining you eats from last Wednesday (as I shared, I’ve been keeping “stock” of daily eats so I can be consistent in bringing you these posts!).

Now, for eats…

As always, let’s remember that the purpose of sharing my eats with you is not so that you can compare your eats to mine, but rather, my hope is that you would find encouragement within these posts to listen to your own body and to eat intuitively, without rules. That you would find freedom!


Daily Eats | Scrambled Eggs, Sourdough Toast with Kerrygold Butter, and Bulletproof Coffee

Wednesday started off with breakfast with Marco. We each had two eggs and sourdough toast. I also had a cup of coffee with half & half and agave. I’ve been LOVING blending my coffee up in the Vitamix. It makes it so frothy! Feels like I’m having a fancy latte at home 🙂

Daily Eats |  Simple and Satisfying Vegetarian Chili with Sourdough Bread and Hummus. Yum!

For lunch I had leftover vegetarian chili (recipe here) with sourdough bread and hummus. Yum!

After lunch I got back to work, filmed some videos for you all, worked on writing, etc… Around 3:00 I was feeling a little slump in my day and figured changing my work scenery would be just what I needed. So, I drove a few miles to a local coffee shop and worked for four more hours.

While I was at the coffee shop I got a cappuccino which got my alertness right back up! Ha, don’t you just love that? Seriously though, would I had stayed in the same spot and had coffee it wouldn’t have done anything. Change of scenery is important for me!

Daily Eats | Afternoon Grilled Cheese on Sourdough as a Small Meal

After coffee-shop-work I ran to Trader Joe’s to get a few more things for dinners this week. I bought things to make: 1) salmon, sautéed spinach, and quinoa and 2) steak, potatoes and green beans. Yum!

When I got home I was pretty hungry. So before I started all of the food prep I got out a small slice of bread and piece of cheese and made this mini grilled cheese. I sat down, enjoyed it, and THEN turned on my music, got in my PJ’s, and started cooking dinner.

Truth be told, by the time dinner came around all I wanted was to snack on a few strings of green beans and put the rest away. It wasn’t that the grilled cheese ruined my appetite, it’s that it truly satisfied me enough. I decided it would feel better to save these two little meals for later.

Oh, and as you may have noticed, I switched up the sides to the salmon last minute. I did the salmon with potatoes and green beans and will do the steak with either potatoes (there’s lots) or quinoa, and sautéed spinach.

I want to share a little bit about food rules here…

In the height of my disordered eating, I had so many food rules. Don’t eat lunch too late… don’t eat dinner too late… if you’re hungry before dinner, just wait. Just keep waiting until it’s meal time – you’re almost there! ALWAYS eat breakfast. Don’t have too many snacks.

Today, I do what my body needs when it needs it. If it’s only 11:00 and I need lunch, I’ll take a break and have lunch without thought. If it’s 4:00 and I’m “meal hungry”, I’ll have dinner early, or make a “small meal” like I did with this grilled cheese to curb my gnawing hunger.

There’s no use in making yourself suffer over food rules. Doing so only creates more stress for us around food, and takes us away from whatever we’re wanting to enjoy or focus on.
