Allowing God to Shape Your Life

This week on the podcast we’re talking about allowing God to shape your life, for His good purposes. As we walked through this conversation, I literally pictured (God made me a visual woman) handing God, the Master Artist, the paintbrush of my life and saying “here you go, not my will but YOURS”. Giving Him control, and watching as His creation unfolds.

Allowing God to Shape Your Life

Being in His will is the best place we can be. Lately, there have been a few prayers bringing me comfort as I seek to know Him more:

  • God, please help me live each day more and more in alignment with you and your will
  • God, I pray boldly for God pleasing outcomes in my life (or in this circumstance)
  • God, I trust you–help me remember throughout my moments and days that I can trust YOU
  • God, show me where to go and give me ears to hear and eyes to see
  • God, make YOURSELF my hearts greatest desire

I deeply, and genuinely want for my life, whatever it is that God wants. When I pause to think about it and get my mind calm and focused on Him, I know whatever He wants will be best. However, at the same time, when I’m not focusing my mind on Him and I’m going about my own day, my tendency can be to try to control for the outcomes that I think are best and most pleasing. I know I’m not alone in this.

Trust for God Pleasing Outcomes

This week, will you join me in praying for outcomes in your life that please Him? Outcomes that cause us to worship Him? What I love about this prayer is it also lovingly convicts me and shows me what things in my life I’ve made idols out of. What things I’m desiring so much that I’m trying hard to control the outcome, instead of surrendering, learning more about who He is, and trusting Him.

When I am attached to controlling outcomes in my life, my mind focuses on getting results I think are best. When I surrender, my mind is able to trust and receive the outcomes God knows are best. Allow yourself to be shaped by God. He is where our joy and satisfaction are.

Matthew 6:25-34

Do Not Be Anxious

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
