Comfort Stuck

How to still find joy even in the hard times, like losing a loved one. Listen as I share how I’ve been experiencing holy comfort lately. I’ll also be sharing about why the goal to help someone grieving doesn’t have to be to make them feel better. We don’t need to rush through disappointment or grief in life.

Let’s start with defining the term Comfort Stuck. To me, this describes when we immediately jump to comforting ourselves or others instead of allowing the powerful process of sitting with hard emotions, to learn from them.

All emotions have something important to teach us, even the not-so-fun-to-feel ones.

Ask yourself things like:

“Why am I feeling disappointed?”

“What is this emotion revealing to me about life?”

We miss out on valuable growth when we avoid the hard emotions and the gift that comes into our lives from working through these tough emotions.

Right now, I’m navigating the fresh waters of losing my dad. Is grief pleasant to feel? No? But it is necessary to allow myself to experience.

Singing my heart out at church during worship has been so healing to me, a way to find comfort BUT ALSO still allow myself to feel the deep loss of my dad.

Mourning and joy are both in my heart. So I’m:

Slowing down. Letting go of a need for certainty. Tossing out the timeline.

Remembering life is beyond precious. Moments are precious.

Acknowledging that the small moments mean the absolute most.

Being who I want to be right now. No waiting.
Surrendering. Leaning into God 100%. He is my healer.

Your real life right in front of you is what wants to be cherished and felt and experienced most. Don’t miss that today.

Try to love yourself today through things like disappointment and grief, instead of judging yourself for feeling those things.

All emotions are a gift and want to speak to use, to share wisdom with us.

Will you let them share with you today?
