For the Woman Who Wants to Let Go Of Control

If this is you–a woman who deeply wants to let go of control–I get you.

I have wanted to control things for most of my life. To be honest, I think it’s how I survived a lot of my teenage years.

With an amazing dad, who happened to struggle with alcoholism, I never knew what I was coming home to. Would he be sober? Drunk? Happy? Angry? How was my mom doing?

The lack of control at home made me anxious. I would mask that anxiety by controlling other things in my life. Most prominently back then, the number on the scale. And I was so good at it.

But just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

I talk about this on the podcast this week–if you want to hear more about building a life of satisfying habits rather than merely pleasurable distractions, listen on Apple or Spotify.

Seeing the number on the scale go down was a dopamine hit I can still imagine. “Ah, GOOD. You did something RIGHT yesterday. You’re doing good. All is okay.” I distinctly remember thinking “If everything else falls apart, at least I have this.”

You might have similar thoughts today–you try to gain a sense of security controlling aspects of your life…

  • What other people think of you.
  • The emotional vibe of your home.
  • How slim you can be.
  • What and how much you eat.
  • Money.
  • Productivity.

The list goes on…

I hear from women all the time “I want to let go.” Sometimes phrased as “let go and let God…”

Wherever you are, I see you. I see your deep desire to trust moreTo trade control for curiosity. To be kind to yourself. To feel more relaxed as you surrender control.

Ultimately, to trust that God is in control. I hear you, I see you, I am you. Doing this right alongside you everyday.

If you’re ready to exchange control for curiosity and experience daily life in a lighter way, do it with me in Live Brightly. We’ll do this by: walking through the 7 Pillars of a Bright and Purposeful Life together, starting 2/27 (next Tuesday!). Join here.
