His Grace Is Enough—Mine Isn’t

His Grace is enough. My grace is not.

I want to use capital G Grace in this post to describe His Grace—the unshakable, limitless, and sustaining power of God. And I’ll use lowercase g grace to describe the worldly grace we try to muster up for ourselves—the kind that often comes from a place of self-sufficiency, self-permission, and self-reliance.

Being gentle with ourselves isn’t bad. Gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). But the difference between our grace and His Grace is that His Grace strengthens us to follow through on what we say we value, while ours often makes excuses for why we can’t.

When we rely too much on our own grace, we can easily fall into cycles of self-pity, frustration, or avoidance. This is too hard. I should just give myself a break. We stop showing up for the things that are most meaningful to us. We quit when things feel uncomfortable. And while there’s wisdom in knowing when to rest, sometimes we stop short of what God is actually calling us to endure and grow through.

His Grace Strengthens Us

God’s Grace doesn’t just let us off the hook—it empowers us to keep going.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Paul writes:

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

The truth is, if we could do it all on our own, we wouldn’t need Him. But the way God designed us is to depend on Him. So when we hit a wall, when we feel like we can’t do it, we’re actually in the perfect position to invite Him in—to lean on His Grace instead of our own effort.

God’s Grace isn’t pressure; it’s permission to trust Him. It’s saying, God, I can’t do this on my own, but I trust You to do it through me.

Where Have You Relied on Your Own Grace?

Think about the areas in your life where you feel stuck, discouraged, or tempted to quit:

  • Where have you been relying on your own strength instead of trusting in His?
  • What would it look like to surrender those things to His Grace today?
  • Where have you given yourself permission to back away from something that, deep down, you know He’s calling you to walk through?

If God is calling you to something, He will give you the Grace to carry it out. His Grace is enough—not just to cover you, but to strengthen you.

So today, instead of letting your own grace convince you to give up, lean into HisGrace—and keep going.

Live Brightly,

Paige
