How To Set Yourself Up For Success

How To Set Yourself Up for Success

Episode four of the Aligned with Paige Schmidt Podcast is up!

Today I am talking all about how you can set yourself up for success. I also share a fun pregnancy update in the beginning, so definitely give that a listen! I am 37 weeks along and absolutely cannot wait to meet Selah in just a few short weeks.

During my pregnancy, I have been given a lot of advice to prepare myself for the difficulty of being a parent. And I appreciate this advice sooo much, because I want to be as prepared as possible and not have a false story that everything will be perfect all the time.

However, I do want to remind myself that things can be good AND hard. And that doesn’t make it bad, or cause me to sit in fear.

When we emphasize the hard, sometimes we miss out on the goodness that is there. It’s okay for there to be both. Because I know this, I place a lot of importance on knowing what I value, so that I can set myself up for success.

So how can you set yourself up for success so that you can become the version of yourself you envision, and feel calm while doing so?

For example, if you want to get dressed up each day, you can set yourself up for success by picking out your outfit the night before. It requires intentionality in both your thoughts and actions.

When I was around 20, I started practicing little habits that led me to the woman I am today, such as planning out what I need to do each day or week, using my Google Calendar to know what I need to do in the coming weeks, etc.

Setting yourself up for success means thinking ahead to what you need to do and who you want to become, and taking action to have those things be more automatic.

Where do you want to set yourself up for success and how can you make those things a habit? Can you set up your coffee maker each night to go off at the time you want to wake up in the morning? Can you set out your floss each night so you remember to floss?

Over time, these simple tasks will become so automatic that they won’t take up much mental space anymore. They will become so routine that you won’t think about it when it is time to do those things.

At first though, it will take some rewiring of your thoughts, and it won’t be as automatic. In the podcast, I walk you through exactly how I get through those thoughts of “Why did I set my alarm for 6am? What was I thinking?” or “I really don’t want to go to the grocery store now, I’ll just get take out tonight”. These types of thoughts will come up, but I will share with you plenty of tips that will help you work through them.

You can become the version of yourself you see yourself becoming through actions that you do each day that set you up for success. Listen to the podcast episode to learn exactly how you can do this one day at a time.
