Living in the Space Between

Eternity is such a wild concept for me. Foooooorever? Like, for.ev.er? My brain—and I’m sure yours too—measures so many things in time. Today, tomorrow, this week, this month, this year. My brain even measures goals within time. What do I want to accomplish today? This week? This year?
Can you imagine an eternal, never-ending timeline? Can you imagine being so absolutely and completely satisfied in your existence with God that you need literally nothing else? Perfection. Complete satisfaction. No more hoping that things will get better. They’ll be perfect, just as God designed them to be. No need for change. No more need for transformation.
This is so wild to me.
In this world, we long for such perfection. We will always long for more, for better, because our hearts are set on eternity. So, what do we do with our time here in this world? Before a new heaven and a new earth are created?
Do we need to make the world a better place just for the sake of it? I don’t think so. I think living brightly is a gift to us: to enjoy our existence here in the in-between, to point others to Him, and to experience as much relationship with God as we can until we’re with Him forever.
We live brightly to enjoy this life in His presence and to point others to Him.
We live brightly to hold fast to Him, to enjoy Him now. He wants a relationship with us while we’re here. He wants to help us, guide us, comfort us, and love us—right here, right now—until we’re with Him forever.
Isn’t that kind of wild to think about? The purpose of everything now is to hold fast to Him until we get to be with Him forever. We don’t need to seek 100% satisfaction here and now. We won’t find it on this earth. But we can live with that knowledge, knowing we will have it in Him. Instead, we can place our desire for satisfaction with Him and enjoy the life He’s given us now—just to enjoy it. Not because it’s the best we’ll have. It’s not.
So today, enjoy the life He’s given you. Because He gave it to you. Invite Him into every area (He’s already there—just seek Him in every area: marriage, motherhood, business, goals, risk-taking, health, joy). Hold fast to your faith in Him. And know that we’re living in the space between—right now—until we get to be with Him for all eternity.
