Nespresso, God, and Handing Over Control
April 28, 2026

This is a story about trusting God instead of overthinking, overplanning, and overcontrolling. Something I talk to clients a lot about in coaching is inviting God into every area. Even the small ones.
Lose something? Ask God for help finding it.
Trying to make a decision? Ask God to increase your hearts desires in the direction of His will.
Stressed about all you have to do today? Give the whole day to God. Ask Him to direct your steps and help you get done what’s most important.
He is in control. And this is how we remind ourselves that He is in control. Also, this is how we give Him glory for everything. When I live this way, He is glorified. If I find the thing I was looking for, I get to say “thank you, God!” When my desires increase in a certain direction, I have peace knowing that I have asked Him to control my heart’s desires in alignment with His will. The decision becomes easy to make. When I end my morning routine with 20 minutes to spare, I get to sit in awe of HimโHe did that. He is so much better at ordering my steps than I am. When I give Him my time, my days are better, I have more energy, I get more done, and I still have time leftover.
And so, enter a little story about my Nespresso. Just yesterday, I was making my morning coffee when the thought popped into my mind: “I haven’t descaled this thing in a long time.” I’m pregnant, so for the last 8 months I haven’t been making as many coffees as I had previously. My next automatic thought was “I really hope I get the signal to descale this before the baby is here.”
If you have a Nespresso machine, you know the undivided attention it needs to descale it. If you miss one step or are even a couple of minutes off, the whole process will have to restart. It’s not hard, but it requires full attention. That, plus a newborn, doesn’t add up. Because my brain is in a true habit of inviting God into everything, I said a little prayer. “Nope, not going to worry about this. God, you will work it out so that I can descale this before Beckham is here.” I knew simultaneously that I could probably just descale it before the light went on and all would be good. But what happened next is the point of this whole story.
My coffee finished brewing, and I went to grab my mug, and guess what I saw? The red and green lights flash on the top of my Nespresso. That little light is what tells you “time for descaling.” You should have seen the smile that stretched across my face. Such a small thing, but a huge hug from God saying, “I see you, I know what you need, and I’ve got you.” Of course, this meant far more to me beyond my coffee machine. I felt Him saying to me in all areas of my life, “I AM the One who is in control. I’ve got you. Keep trusting.” And my entire being felt itโa Holy Spirit HUG.
And that’s what happens when we invite God into our smallest moments, like making coffee. He gets all the glory, praise, and adoration. This draws us closer to Him.
Your relationship with God can be as personal as you will allow it to be. He’s right there, ready to be welcomed into every little moment of your dayโand the joy and peace that will come… is absolutely unmatched.
Invite Him into your thoughts. Let the Holy Spirit shift your self-talk into God-talk. Pray about everything. Thank Him for everything. He is always at workโwhen we stop to notice His movement, we are blessed with the JOY of noticing Him at work (talk about increased faith and security).
6 Donโt worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience Godโs peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
โ Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
Thank you, Lord! You are so good.
Life & Coaching Updates:
- I have just 3 weeks left until I am on maternity leave until September. Baby boy is expected to join us in June, and Selah will be home with us for the summer. I am so excited to soak her up before she’s a big Kindergartener!
- From now until May 21, I do have just a few one-off coaching session slots available. If you’d like to book one single session before my pause in private coaching, email me paige@paigeschmidt.com and I’ll let you know my availability and current rate. You can also add your name to the waitlist here to be notified when I open up spaces in my next 6-month program in September.
- During maternity leave, I plan to continue meeting with my sweet, precious group in Live Brightly. Beckham will surely make an appearance or two on camera while dad is watching him (I’ll have Marco pop him in for a hello!), and I think it will be such a sweet way to stay connected with my community while also honoring downtime with my family. We meet once every two weeks for an hour, come together, focus on the Lord, and have a safe space to be transparent, vulnerable, and grow together in God’s word. Vulnerability plus a group of safe women and the Bible to guide usโthat’s growth. That’s what we’ll be doing. When you join now, you’ll also get our current workshop series to help you grow: Easy Thinking, Reactions & Responses, Not Taking Things Personally, and Relationships & Connections. We’re currently working through all these great workshops for the next several weeks. Join Live Brightly here. Especially if you’re a private client wanting to stay connected during my maternity leave (this is the perfect way!), or you’re a past client wanting to reconnect and grow closer to God in community with others, or you’re brand new, wanting to explore this space and see if it’s a great fit for you. Join us.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.โ Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
